Rush'n Attack (1985 Video Game)
6/10
The character you control is one tough dude

This game was first an arcade game that provided some fun at an arcade, it was later transferred to the NES home gaming system. While not quite the game it was in the arcade, it still provided a couple of hours of fun and made for a good rental. I cannot imagine paying to much for it though as it is not very long. Still, an early old school classic that ushered in the age where games relied less on scores and more on actually completing the game and then being provided an actual ending.

The story, well a dude goes behind enemy lines with a knife and proceeds to cut down all enemies in his path! You heard that correct, a knife. People think the two dudes in Contra are tough, but this guy only uses a knife! So give the guys in Contra credit for having brains, anyway. This guy does get the medal for being rather tough and stupid. He slashes his way passed all his enemies, while occasionally picking up a rocket launcher, a handgun and a grenade. He battles through the same enemies again and again to face a wave of enemies at the end of the stage and some different foes such as dudes with jet packs and stuff. However, you will probably find the toughest foe you face are those guys who jump kick! Who knew your toughest foe would not be a gunner, but a jump kicker?

So while the game is fun and provides a brief distraction it is not anything you will be playing for really long periods of time. Though it is understandable as a lot of NES games were arcade ports. Arcade games are made to take quarters and also not made very long so that occasionally someone could win the game. Thus, when they were ported they were generally the exact same game as far as levels were concerned. So you get what you played in the arcade which is kind of fun, but usually short.
