"Crosscut" is a very uneasy blend, of Mafia hit man on the run, loggers vs environmentalists, and romance, that is surprisingly good. Costas Mandylor, doing a fair Michael Madsen imitation, is hiding out from the mob, who want him dead, in a small Northern California logging community. He takes a job at the mill, which is slated to close because of an endangered owl. There is a romance with one of the locals, and a shootout with the goons pursuing him. Surprisingly, all of these subplots do not detract enough to prevent me from recommending "Crosscut". Acting and character development is way above average for a 'B" movie, and the film is quite entertaining. - MERK
