Is this the greatest Modern Family ever produced?
4 April 2014
Modern Family is my favourite show. It's been my favourite show since I began watching it midway through its first season back in 2009, and it remains so to this day. Given, it may not be to the same level of innovation now as it was back in its first two seasons, but the writing is still so consistently strong, and even episodes that may not work on a comedy level are still loaded with emotion and strong character development. The characters of Modern Family are what makes this show work.

I was unsure about Las Vegas before watching it. I thought that maybe the writers had thrown in a new location in an attempt to breathe some new life into the formula, and overall, I doubted it would work. Then what a surprise it is to me that Las Vegas is a strong contender for the greatest Modern Family episode ever produced.

Whilst it starts off slow, this episode builds to a roaring crescendo, and it is possibly the funniest final act we've seen since season one's Fizbo (widely perceived as the best MF episode). Modern Family employs the use of misunderstandings an awful lot, but if they work as well as they do here, what's the harm in that? The chaos that takes place between the three connected rooms of the families is pure genius, and just when you think they've reached the final laugh, another one comes. And then another. It is simply fantastic stuff.

Modern Family may not be as strong now as it once was, but I don't think there will be a time where I stop enjoying this show. Sure, they have the occasional misfire, but what show doesn't? The fact that an episode of this quality can be sent out in Modern Family's fifth season suggests that this show is far from dead.

This is, for me, the funniest episode of Modern Family ever.
