Awakened (2013)

Terrible, absolutely terrible.

Warning: Spoilers
I'm sorry, I usually don't write bad reviews on movies, but this was a mess. For starters the characters and main character Samantha, lacks complexity and character development. There is barely any emotion in the main actress... until towards the end - which was slightly better but still not the best it could be. I say that there was no character development as this protagonist was on a quest to find out 'who murdered her mother.' There is no depth to her quest, not a strong connection to her mother and the flashbacks were absolutely terrible.

I actually thought the scripts were written by an 8th grader. The characters reasons for doing things made no sense at all, you could even tell they didn't believe what they were saying, which made the acting average, or even less than average. A lot of the characters were introduced too soon, and they were completely irrelevant to the story line, or had little to no importance which was extremely boring.

Not to mention, the cover was of a demon and a little girl, COMPLETELY a deception, I was waiting for a demon to pop out at any time so I could stop being so bored.

The music, a lot of the time was in the wrong place at the wrong time, for example when the father and daughter began to in a strange way, feel things again for each other? I don't even know it made no sense. Epic music was played, that could be in a game of thrones battle scene win, whilst the camera shot of the two on the dining table was terrible. Wrong angle, wrong timing. Not to mention, not enough close ups to capture the right emotion at the right time. Too many flickers back and forth, wrong angles, etc.

The ending was the worst of all. Suddenly finds out its all in her head, its like an absolute nightmare. There were no foreshadows of this, it was completely random!! Not to mention whenever her mother popped up, it was not scary, cheap looking and again wrong timing.

This movie was terrible, I'm so upset I wasted my money on it. Could've been written, directed and produced by an 8th grader.
