More than moderately entertaining!

Warning: Spoilers
This is the only feature directed by famed choreographer LeRoy Prinz, who was borrowed from Warner Brothers for this assignment at Hal Roach Studios. Well, perhaps "feature" is not quite the right word as this film runs only 49 minutes, but it packs in enough singing, dancing and comedy for a full-length feature – that's for sure. And it's not just bottom-of-the barrel stuff either. One of the songs, "Out of the Silence", and the whole music score itself, were both nominated for Academy Awards. And the costumes were designed by none other than Travilla. In fact, this was his very first movie assignment. And it's always good to see Harry Langdon, one of my favorite comedians, in the cast. All in all, despite its familiar title, it's a richly produced and well directed movie. If the plot seems a bit ho-hum and we've-seen- it-all-before, it's still all reasonably entertaining. And it's acted out with vigor, that's for sure! Available on numerous out-of-copyright DVDs.
