Sonic Boom (2014–2017)
6/10
Ridiculously Ludicrous Yet Watchable
3 December 2015
I've been a Sonic fan ever since I was seven. My first Sonic game was Sonic Advance 2 for the Gameboy and I've been a fan of Sonic ever since.

However, Sonic Boom brings out some terrible aspects about the franchise. I know it's supposed to be separate from the actual Sonic franchise, but you would think there would be improvements to it at least.

The character designs are better than the original, if I must add. The characters actually look their age and I like how the producers took out humans for the story. The one thing I never could stand was the fact that these mysterious animals that can talk and perform other various actions are somehow able to live in accordance to humans. Not saying there's something wrong with diversity, but I'm glad the producers took that out.

The story is bland, of course. It doesn't have any deep meaning to it and supports itself through ridiculous comedic relief.

This show has little comedy, if at all. The jokes are bland and not once have I laughed or even felt closer to Death by laughing when comedy was involved. They made this show so kid-friendly that it's not even funny.

Stereotypes are highly emphasized. With Knuckles being the muscle of the group, he is a complete dolt. Of course, before Sonic Boom, Knuckles wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed, but at least he had some understanding and knowledge.

Tails has always been my favorite character because of his intelligence and intellectuality. But this show focuses on the child stereotype on Tails that it's ridiculous. Tails was much mature before Sonic Boom and now, he is smart and good with equipment, but equally kiddie.

An improvement with Amy is that she doesn't fawn over Sonic like she used to. Other than that, I hate how the producers made her into some bossy girl. Not that she was bossy before, but she was never THIS much of a brat.

They've changed Dr. Eggman so significantly that it's sad. Eggman went from this maniacal villain who planned to take over the world and eliminate Sonic if he ever got in his way, to being an outright meddler. There is not one episode where Eggman just says, "You know what? I'm just going to take a break." He's always being involved in Sonic's life and quite frankly, it's annoying.

Other than that, this show is watchable. Despite the lack of action and dry sense of humor, it's worthy of watching. I just hope characters like Rouge, Cream, Vector, Silver and Blaze are added soon. If the show is going to continue, I hope the producers change some elements that can make Sonic fans feel related to what they've always loved and enjoyed, such as bringing back Chaos Emeralds, Chaos, and the impact of action that made Sonic into what fans remember it to be.
