Another version of the Kitty Genovese Story
4 February 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Ever since the early 60s when it happened the Kitty Genovese case has fascinated the public. For those too young to remember Kitty Genovese was raped and killed on Jamaica Avenue in the borough of Queens in New York City. It was in the wee small hours of the morning and the noise attracted people living on Jamaica Avenue. Lights went on in apartments, so people watched, but no one called the cops or tried to assist the victim. The case became synonymous with an indifferent or cynical public.

In this one three youths from a halfway house spot a truly stoned woman and take her to her building where the original intention is to get into the apartment. Failing that they have their way with her in the building courtyard.

This episode is one where new SVU detective Peter Scannavino gets to shine. It particularly bothers him, but during the course of the investigation and trial Scannavino is the one who uncovers key witnesses. It's because of him justice was served.

At least more justice than Kitty Genovese got.
