Special Ops (2010)
8/10
Enjoyable Grade B action opus
26 February 2016
A black ops team led by Captain Kyle Fierson (a solid and credible performance by A.J. Draven) gets ambushed during a raid to retrieve a nuclear device. In the wake of this unfortunate incident, Fierson not only has to track down the missing device, but also has to clear his tarnished name.

Director Tom Shell, working from a compact script by Jennifer Lee Roy, keeps the engrossing story moving along at a snappy pace, stages the plentiful action set pieces with skill and aplomb, and further tops everything off with some nice touches of humor. Draven makes for a handsome and likable lead; he receives sound support from Rez Cortes as the chatty and amiable Daco Santos, Marie Lanoy as Daco's feisty daughter Nita, Miguel Vasquez as the ferocious Bin Malik, Finola Hughes as the ruthless Lilian Carlisle, and Steven Bauer as the corrupt Colonel Caine. Kerwin Go's sharp and lively cinematography provides an impressive polished look. Joe Cruz's robust score hits the rousing spot. A fun flick.
