New Blood (2016)
8/10
An enjoyable new BBC police drama

This BBC1 crime drama follows two junior investigators in London. They are Arrash 'Rash' Sayyad a trainee Detective Constable with the Metropolitan Police and Stefan Kowolski of the Serious Fraud Office; they don't officially work together but have a habit of investigating the same cases from different sides.

The opening story, which involves murders linked a medical trial that took place in India six year previously, brings the unlikely pair together. Rash immediately finds Steph to be one of the most annoying people he has met… not only does he get Rash in trouble he starts flirting with his sister. Inevitably it isn't long before the duo are sharing a flat!

The first seven part series features three varied cases which almost invariably puts our two protagonists in danger. People looking for realism are likely to be disappointed but those wanting enjoyably mysteries with a decent amount of action and plenty of laughs should really enjoy it. Ben Tavassoli and Mark Strepan have a great chemistry as Rash and Steph and are ably supported by a solid cast that includes plenty of familiar faces. Judging by other reviews this seems to be a love it or loathe it series and I'm pleased to say that I really enjoyed it; I hope we get a second series… the finale scene certainly looked like a set up for Series Two.
