Seeing Fred Gwynne in the flesh
21 December 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I never got to see this episode in its initial run on CBS, because I was watching the second part of the pilot episode of Batman. But when I saw it in reruns a couple of years later, I had fun seeing what Fred Gwynne looked like in real life when he is "disfigured."

And Gwynne's acting is really good in this episode. It was fun seeing him recoil to what he saw in the mirror. It also didn't hurt to see the old Universal monster-making machines in action again, in black and white, as they did in 1931 and would do so again in 1974 when Young Frankenstein was made.

Overall, one of the better episodes in a season when the show's over- the-top approach seemed to be wearing a little thin. Too bad, because I like the show so well. As a kid, I wish it had kept on, and it would have been cool to have seen it run for at least another two seasons.
