Most sitcoms have a break out star, and in the case of 'Home Improvement' this was most certainly Jonathon Taylor Thomas. And sadly with most breakout stars, they tend to leave the show that made them famous.
This is what happens here, as Thomas's character, Randy, goes off to Costa Rica.
Series 8 hadn't got off to a good start, and the show itself was in decline, but this is on the whole (the 'Tool Time' scene is poor)a good episode, that has real moments of heart.
Thomas would be very sorely missed for the rest of the series. I don't think it ever recovered.
