There's nothing highbrow about this and it doesn't follow the original story. Three episodes in and it looks like a standard 'pick off a couple of secondary characters a week'. That's not to say it's bad, it's just not all that good.
The special effects are sparse, the acting is meh, and it seems to be going for a more...magical cause and effect. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I long for the rational explanations of the original book/movie. Physics and laws of nature don't necessarily apply anymore.
The worst part is Spike TV by far. If you thought you noticed a few more commercials, you're not wrong. Spike TV has the longest commercial breaks in TV and it really bogs down the pace.
Overall it's alright. I kind of wish we had more cheap and disposable limited series like this. You don't need to get too invested and it's entertainment that doesn't tax your brain much.
