Review S1 Ep2 The Haunted Lighthouse The transition from the opening episode mix of multiple characters to this is far from smooth due to key recurring roles absent, i.e. Lois (Phyllis Coates) and Mr. White (John Hamilton), no big city participation with Superman's scenes limited to the seascape and remoteness of an island, unfriendly characters posing as relatives, a muted individual unable to provide a substantial addition to the story, any believable explanation of why Jimmy (Jack Larson) visits his aunt (Vacation? With his tenure at the planet, he should be learning at the Planet not traipsing around a desolate island). The premise was weak to make this the second showing of a classic series, they could have done better mixing up the story to include all recurring roles at the Planet and Metropolis. To feature only Jack Larson along with George Reeves in a limited role was disappointing. The bad guys turn out to be miserable people from the start, rather than hiding their artificiality forthright. The limited staging due to the plot line made it uncomfortable for this viewer to get into the story. The marked differences from Krypton, Kent's farm and Metropolis to the sea, shipboard, island and cabin were not satisfying. Superman's use of feats of strength, powers beyond mortal man were limited as well, but probably saved the overall production with what was offered.
