Buffy's Fake Sister
8 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
In "No Place Like Home", Buffy is convinced that an evil spirit is causing her mom's illness. This suspicion leads to Buffy discovering the truth about Dawn and the forces trying to find her. Meanwhile, Giles makes his grand opening of his magic shop and an evil woman with supernatural powers tortures some monks for information.

This is the strongest episode of Season 5 thus far and we really get to see what the story lines will be moving forward. The sequences in which Buffy is in a trance mode are really great, maybe my favorite of the episode. Glory is also a really fun villain in this one. Even Spike brigs a little to the table in this one with his witty banter. There's really no wasted space in this episode. The only qualm I have is the sequence involving the building following on Glory, giving time for the monk to give Buffy 5 minutes worth of exposition. Still, just a small issue.

Where this romantic conflict with Spike and Buffy goes is anybody's guess. Buffy may have unwittingly gotten herself another ally, regardless of whether or not Spike's chip works or not. The other obvious thread to watch is Dawn & Buffy: What will their relationship be like moving forward? Who is after her? A promising start to the season, we'll see what's up next.
