Butter is an urban thriller set in the music industry. Pop star Carmen Jones is unhappy about her recording contract and record label who she believes is cheating her.

Her label boss, 8 Ball is determined for her not to leave and resorts to murder by making it look like a drug overdose and then framing her cousin, Freddie Jones for her death.

Freddie is now on the run trying to clear his name with only a few people he can rely on, one of them is a cop, Dexter Banks.

One of the issues with the movie is that the lead actor Shemar Moore who plays Freddie is rather poor and is outshone by other more famous names such as Ernie Hudson, Terrence Howard, Nia Long, Tony Todd and Donald Faison. I bet the producers now wish that Howard was cast as the lead instead.

The script is workmanlike at best, laughably poor at worse. The direction is lacklustre.
