'DUDE': Three Stars (Out of Five)

A comedy-drama about a group of teenage girlfriends, that are all having trouble preparing for life after high school. It was written and directed by debut feature filmmaker Olivia Milch, and it stars Lucy Hale, Kathryn Prescott, Alexandra Shipp, Awkwafina, Alex Wolff and Nora Dunn. It was released by Netflix through it's streaming site, and I found it to be very mildly interesting and amusing.

Four teenage girlfriends are preparing for prom, and life after high school. The brother of one of the girl's also recently died, and this has been hard for them to take as well. Especially Lily (Hale), who felt like she was in love with him. The girls all try to deal with other/new relationshipstoo, while also entering into this new stage of young adulthood.

The movie is well acted, and seemingly true to life (at least some what). It also seems kind of pointless in the end though, and uneventful. I'm sure there is a point to it all, at least in the writer/director's mind, but it wasn't conveyed well to me. Still, it has it's moments, with inspiring scenes of young friendship and determination too.
