Life Sentence (2018)

I got the sense it's trying very hard to be a Bryan Fuller show like Dead Like Me or Pushing Daisies but instead of whimsical, Life Sentence comes off a bit clunky. Lucy Hale is surprisingly delightful. Her part as Aria in the cult classic, Pretty Little Liars, was the least interesting of the main four girls in the show, so, Life Sentence does shine her in a new light. She has a comedy side we didn't know existed and she is easily likable. The show has funny elements but it just doesn't zing. Maybe the directing? Not sure. It seems like it would be my cup of tea but it just doesn't bid me to click for more.

Lucy's new husband, while very handsome and has the whole British accent, they don't have a lot of chemistry going for them and it would have been much funnier and interesting if he admitted that he never loved her or loved her in the beginning, but only stuck it out out of guilt and thought he had a short commitment. I actually thought that's where it was going, instead, he's just a wimp while everyone else in her life is basically selfish and immature, pretending to be perfect for her.

The only thing legitimately funny was when the sister asks her daughter if she had anything for dinner and the daughter declares, "I ate jewelry."

I think Lucy Hale most likely has a good career ahead of her, this show, however, does not.
