Captain Nemo
28 October 2018
I remember when Michael Jackson was Captain EO (I believe it was tied to Disneyland somehow). Years later I watched the movie "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" which had a character named Captain Nemo. I knew it was supposed to be a character from a book or a movie but I never knew what. I found that elusive movie in this "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea."

Captain Nemo, played by James Mason, has developed a submarine and a power source well ahead of his time. It's so advanced that it could change the world forever but he fears that it would only be used for evil. The three outsiders aboard his vessel are all there for different reasons. Professor Pierre Aronnax seeks to learn more about the science of the submarine; Conseil is merely the professor's apprentice, and Ned Land (Kirk Douglas) is hoping to get rich from the experience.

I hope you're not claustrophobic because the majority of the movie takes place in the tight, yet neat quarters of the Nautilus (the name of the submarine). In this time we get to know what drives Captain Nemo and what are his aims. He's a mercurial fellow with noble yet somewhat hypocritical goals.

The movie is a tad slow for my tastes and teetered on dull for too much of the time. I'm still pleased that I took to time to watch it if not for knowing who is this Captain Nemo
