7 Days in Hell (2015 TV Movie)
7/10
Rip-roaring send-up had me smiling from start to finish
28 November 2018
"7 Days in Hell" (2015 release; 43 min.) is a "mockumentary" about the epic first round tennis match at Wimbledon 2001 between American 'bad boy of tennis' Aaron Williams and British 'poster boy of tennis' Charles Poole. As the movie opens, they are in day 7 of that tennis match, with literally everyone, including the players, begging for an end. We then go back in time, and get to know both players, including the fact that Aaron was adopted at a young age by Richard Williams (father of Venus and Serena)...

Couple of comments: "7 Days in Hell" was directed by Jake Szymanski, best known for his work on SNL and more recently "Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates", and stars Andy Samberg, also an SNL alum, as Aaron Williams. In fact the whole thing has a strong SNL vibe to it, except of course that SNL can't air the amount of over the top nudity and crudeness that is featured here. The mockumentary is helped tremendously by the number of real life guest appearances (John McEnroe, Chris Evert, David Copperfield, Serena Williams, and on and on). In all, this is quite a zany affair. I personally really enjoyed it, and it had me smiling pretty much from start to finish.

This originally aired on HBO in 2015, but thanks to HBO On Demand, I stumbled on this the other day while surfing for something to watch. Glad I did. If however you are easily offended by nudity or crudeness, you'd better skip this. Otherwise, I think you will enjoy this quite a bit.
