....only to say that I so heartily agree with sentiments expressed about why gay films in the US couldn't be this good. IT IS BECAUSE the US film producers/ writers cater to the lowest common denominator. In a Brazilian movie from 2009, two brothers were arguing over the word jealous or jealousy and asks for clarification: adjective or noun? American audience reaction: HUH? 90% of them couldn't tell you one from the other much less identify subject and a verb. This is NOT a film of sleaze or a boring regurgitation of previous (boy frustrated knew when he was 12 of his orientation, the harassments of classmates, makes the mistake of getting married to cover up and the final divorce to run off into the sunsets with a stud muffin met at the bar one evening). The writers did not draw on obscenity for emphasizing points. I am exhausted watching the same-old-same-old story of coming out. This was an absolutely refreshing film that I would watch again. It doesn't all come out roses, neither does it end in a predictably unrealistic twad of scripts/books that should have ended up on the cutting room floor long before being made into a film. Put it simply, it is genuine. I will watch this one again and even maybe again.
