Review of Big Ears

Big Ears (1931)
4/10
Not really depressing, certainly not funny. Basically just not good.

Warning: Spoilers
This well intended Our Gang short is very adult in nature, focusing on the divorce of Wheezer's parents, declared by them no sooner than they've patched things up after a fight. Ann Christy and Creighton Hale act more like children than children as the bickering parents, arguing right in front of Wheezer who questions all of his friends about what divorce is. He decides to get sick by eating every disgusting thing he can find in the refrigerator, and later the medicine cabinet. That sequence alone is painful to watch. Even with the cuteness of Wheezer, Stymie and Petey, it gets out of control, and the conclusion is completely predictable.
