Review of Revolt

Revolt (2017)
7/10
Average, but good average

I don't know why, but I am a sucker for alien invasion stories. They make no sense, since anything that comes from space cannot be defeated since we can't get to them, but it is always fun. This film is combining the genre with the African locale, something that has been done before with zombie movies and action movies and the like, but it seems to become more common. I think that's great for Africa!

Anyway, the weirdly handsome guy from Halt and Catch Fire is the protagonist, with the help of Bond girl Bérénice Marlohe (who is also beautiful but has the weirdest smile), and they are trying to get somewhere that matters while Earth is under attack by pretty cliche aliens who abduct people by sucking them in big ships and kill them with walking robots that turn them into dust. The end is both predictable and underwhelming, like they expected to continue the story in a sequel. It might still happen, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Bottom line: average, but entertaining.
