"Astérix et la surprise de César" tells the story of Asterix and Obelix, that have to join Roman ranks in order to save the beautiful Falbala from certain death.
You can see that the film was produced with a lot of heart and a good eye for details. It continues with elements known from the other parts of the series, but also develops a certain humor on its own, making it a pleasant and entertaining watch. Fans of old-school cartoon drawing will surely like the not yet animated style of design. For me, Asterix and Obelix were part of my childhood and I can recall that I also enjoyed this particular title very much.
All in all this one might not be award-worthy when it comes to the story and alike but for me that is also not what it is produced for. It's a lot of fun for the whole family, rather innocent but daring enough to keep you fully entertained.
