THE INCREDIBLE JOURNEY is a Disney classic about a trio of animals who find themselves living 200 miles from home after their owners are forced away suddenly. Unhappy with their plight, they decide to trek the journey home, travelling through rural America and undergoing many adventures en route.
As an animal lover this film was irresistible and the animals are certainly photogenic, playful and likeable, the bull terrier being my favourite. The plot serves the human characters less well as they all come across as either annoying or stupid, or sometimes annoyingly stupid, but at least they aren't allowed too much scren time. The film isn't as cruel as later additions to the genre (MILO & OTIS anyone?) but there are some contentious scenes typically involving attacks by a bear, a lynx, and an escapade down some rapids. I was especially pleased that the animals weren't humanised and given stupid voices, instead just allowed to be, well, animals.
