Everything you want from a comedy drama

Excellent.

The series has terrific characterizations, a brilliantly complicated plot, high drama and laugh out loud humour. Best of all it has pace. The plot develops at speed and things happen, lots of them, in every episode. There are none of the soulful looks into the distance or lingering landscapes, nor the endless repetition, that so many TV dramas seem to require these days. In those shows, it is as if they need to fill the time to eek out more episodes and sell more time for commercials. With You Me and the Apocalypse, it is as if there is so much to say, they don't waste a minute on anything you could describe as "filling". I must also mention the dialogue and the actions of the characters; people say and do what they would say in real life. You never shout at the screen, yelling "WHY would they do that?!" Watch it to laugh, to be sad and to ask yourself, "what would I do?" The ending is intriguing and, strangely, benefits from knowing (sadly) there is no series two.
