I'm sorry I just don't get the high rating for this British sci fi. I did find this production entertaining in parts but for the wrong reasons. In my opinion the acting and direction were diabolical. Exaggerated cast reactions, overly dramatic music both used to paper over a rather thin plot line and tiny production budget. I felt sorry for the actors who had to literally throw themselves around on the set to emphasise drama. I love classic sci fi from the 50s such as The Day The Earth Stood Still and Forbidden Planet. It's not just about big budgets but good writing and direction as well. Sadly I found Quatermass sadly lacking.
