Born and Missing (2017 TV Movie)
8/10
Hawaii Five-O

Warning: Spoilers
The most shocking thing about "Babynapped" (a.k.a., "Born and Missing") is that the film was inspired by a true story. It was an astounding improvised plan of Kristin Anderson to murder her best friend, kidnap her baby, and think that she could get away with it in the age of DNA.

The pacing of the film was extremely effective, as we witness Kristin swiftly move into action after she delivered a stillborn baby and decide to recoup her loss by stealing the baby of his best friend Ashley. To do so, Kristin draws upon her training biology to deliver a fatal antifreeze cocktail to her bestie.

Some of the most disturbing scenes were those in which Kristin treats her menfolk so abominably that it makes one wonder how they could have become involved with her in the first place. It was especially the treatment of Kristin's husband, David, that was so appalling because he too was suffering from the loss of their baby. With her next live-in boyfriend, Jeremy becomes putty in Kristin's hands. And Jeremy was a thug who nearly beat a man to death!

The characters who are most profoundly on the receiving end of Kristin's deranged murder and abduction plot are Brian, Ashley's husband, and Ashley's mother, Doris. Brian and Ashley resolve to stop at nothing until they discover the lost baby, Julia.

The savvy detective Breuer is also relentless in spending three years following the paper trail to Hawaii, where Kristin is living in the lap of luxury with little "Emma" courtesy of her the husband whom Kristin had unceremoniously dumped.

The film works effectively as a tawdry episode of Hawaii Five-O. One only wishes that it were just a make-believe television detective yarn and not a true live tragedy.
