Review of Viral

Viral (I) (2016)
3/10
Mindlessly derivative

Warning: Spoilers
VIRAL is another disappointing low budget B-movie horror flick, this time dealing with a small town plague outbreak that turns carriers into raving zombies. It's notable for being directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, the guys who made their name making documentary CATFISH, but it's their worst work yet, a mindless and entirely predictable stab at the teen horror genre. The viewer wades through half an hour of cliche and trite characterisation before the horror hits, but it's merely physical grue rather than anything deeper or, indeed, more affecting. It ends up being exactly the same film as you've seen a million times before.
