Review of Ordinary Love

Ordinary Love (2019)
7/10
Difficult Subject but Film finds Important Truths
9 August 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Directed by Lisa Barros Dsa delicately and with a vast majority of screen-time reserved for stars Neeson and Manville, "Oridinary Love" is a bit difficult to rate. There is a cozy familiarity with the lead characters as if maybe neighbors which lends to believability. The subject matter of love in the in the face of decline is a universal hardship everyone must comes to terms with, but it is difficult to watch for entertainment. No one wants to think about loss and much less decline, while cancer is truly the pinnacle of merciless spectors of all diseases, stricking friends and families the world over. The truth of the script shows those with cancer as well as those supporting them suffer its ravages; the toll physically lays into the afflicted but emotionally others who support suffer often quietly or alone. This is sometime overlooked or not well addressed with support systems. "Ordinary Love" is a slow burning 90 min with tough look at love and sacrifice amid affliction, but with a touching ending. 7/10
