Raavanan (2010)

Maniratnam's Bird View Vision of Ramayana.

Warning: Spoilers
Maniratnam has just considered it from a different perspective and that happens when one doesnt fall for the trap of how society believes you to feel about a story or issue. But what we as individual should think and understand is when a godly statured rama kills a women who has no weapon with her who is sister of ravana, he is not unconditional in being a god. Yes he is well behaved and good natured but still as krishna from mahabharat says dharma isnt wholly about following your deeds and duties properly, its about opposing the worlds destruction on a whole (which includes killing a women who isnt with weapon).. even if it costs your own dharma. Thats what a god differentiates the evil. So killing ravana in lanka is totally fair and he deserves to be a god but killing a woman was the initial point of quarell so the resulting act ravana kidnapping seetha right. Having said that both actors and director dealt this with responsibility and executed it on thin lines, That is such a difficult task to do where your protagonist in the movie is antogonist in puranas and vice versa . Thats where every subtle expression of rama(pruthvi), seetha(aishwarya rai) and vikram(ravana) becomes crucial. Those three were brilliant and upto their task of not falling for the thin line that they are walking upon. Finally coming to maniratnam, he is just unbelievable, kudos to him for thinking of something like this. I loved the way he dealt it especially not completely ruining the stature of (lord) rama however for me ravan loving seetha is unnecessary instead i am with ravana for kidnapping ramas wife as revenge for killing her sister. Cinematography and music were competing with each other and both stands out in the movie. If you are up to witness this in a broader view this is for you, There would be a problem if you are a hindu and watch it with the immense devotion towards rama and at the same time you are a muslim or christian and watch this with a hatred on rama as he is a hindu god both are a problem. This mind set made the movie face so much criticism.
