Life is temporary, why should death be any different.

First off, I will say that this movie is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination. The writing could've been better,, the direction could've been better. Now,, that being said,,, I still thought it was pretty dang good. I'd say a 6.8 rating.

McAvoy and Radcliffe together as Frankenstein and Igor?!? Are you kidding me? They were a perfect duo!! If nothing else, watch the movie to see them work together. (Also,, Lorelei is a nice character as well. 😍)

***After a 2nd viewing several yrs later, and getting slightly better at writing reviews -

This movie tells the tale we've all known for quite some time, however it is told from the perspective of Igor (who, according to this movie, was not a true hunchback).

The hunchback, who would become Igor, has grown up playing a circus clown. There he is treated with less respect than a sewer rat and bullied relentlessly by the other performers. However, even without knowing any hint of kindness, he manages to not let this ill treatment darken his heart.

While in the circus, the hunchback spends his spare time reading medical books and learning about the human body. What makes us work, and how everything functions. Unofficially he assumes the role of being the circus doctor.

One night, when a certain young medical student (V. Frankenstein) attends the circus, a trapeze artist named Lorelai falls to the circus ring floor, terribly injuring herself. Both the hunchback and the medical student rush to the girls aid, and the hunchback saves her life by setting her broken collar bone (which was somehow pressing on her lung, not allowing her to breathe). Fascinated by this clowns impromptu work and intelligence, the medical student returns later that night to free the hunchback from his circus slavery, and from there our story really begins.

I stand by what I wrote previously. This is not an incredibly well written or directed movie.

It's in no way bad, just not great either.

That being said, McAvoy & Radcliffe are as incredible as they always are. The supporting cast is very good as well (yes, I still really like Lorelai 👍). I want to change my original rating to an even 7. It's well worth watching just for the performances of the leads.
