30 Rock: Hiatus (2007)

Solid finale and beginning

Hiatus is the season finale of the first season of 30 Rock. The episode follows Tracy as he is on the run from the Black Crusaders and Colleen Donaghy visits Jack.

Hiatus is a solid enough finale. We as the audience are introduced to Colleen Donaghy which is actually a surprise in the episode. The old woman's harsh demeanor makes for entertaining scenes in this episode. There is no grand revelation in this episode. The finale is more of the same way is previous episodes in the first season.

This does make this episode more boring but it brings the relationship angle on Jack Donaghy and Liz Lemon into the lights. It makes the relation that the two characters share a more makes platonic one.

I would recommend the season one finale of "Hiatus".

30 Rock Season One

30 Rock is a television series taking place in the 30 Rockefeller building in New York. The series is written and stars Tina Fey as Liz Lemon, a show manager in charge of the new Tracy Jordan show. The series is a comedy that features the likes of Tracy Morgan, Jane Krakowski, and Alec Baldwin. The season primarily focuses on Liz Lemon and her interactions with her coworkers.

The season does a good job with introducing the setting and characters. Although it is the case that Liz Lemon can be overbearing at times, I enjoyed her character overall. Tina Fey plays the character well. One of the surprises I enjoyed was Jack Donaghy played by Alec Baldwin. The two character's arc in this season was how they were opposites. I enjoyed this dynamic a lot and loved how the two actors had natural chemistry in their lines and delivery.

Some of the flaws were that some characters do not get much of a chance to develop. The writer character feel bland as they were not focused on too much. The season does feel like it is playing it safe. The directing is bland overall but does its job as a situational comedy.

Overall I would recommend the first season of 30 Rock.
