Review of Beach Red

Beach Red (1967)
7/10
Very weird war flick

Beach Red tells a war story with an added depth of the human psychological aspect such as how soldiers miss home as they fight to survive the chaos of war. I like how both sides are given more depth with flashbacks scene, it's hard to not care even for the Japanese soldiers. The movie is fairly entertaining. The opening beach-storming is well staged and intense, it uses military aircrafts, tanks, missiles, and numerous ammunition which makes it more atmospheric and realistic, tho it runs a bit too long for my taste. Second half focuses on the soldiers' imagination with montages and extreme freeze frame and internal monologues, which is kinda creative. But despite the film's intriguing ideas, the execution just kinda feels off, I tried to be artsy in some parts but falls flat. Nonetheless, This is a fairly entertaining movie with a good mix of action and war with some drama.
