The original Major League movie is fabulous. Today, I found out, again, why my VHS of Major League II was stuck way in the back of the movies I own. If not for the introduction of
Rube Baker', and 'Takaaki Ishibashi', and the evil 'Tommy' the movie would win an award for the most depressive characters in a comedy/sports film - ever.
What did David S. Ward, the director, have in mind to have 'Jake Taylor' borderline sanitarium throughout - taking the quiet, but strong character he was in the original film, and turning him into someone who couldn't inspire a whimper, let alone a team mate?
This second attempt utterly fails. But I'll hold onto the movie. You never know when you might want to see people feeling worse than you do.
