If you're looking for a fast action, king fu type movie, move on. This is a serious drama about a real incident in the history of California. Foremost it is a love story, set in 1870s San Francisco and then moves on to L.A. The director is thoughtful incorporating our imaginations into the scenes. The pace is towards the slow side but not slow nor boring if you have any interest in Chinese culture and history.
One reviewer on here pretty much torn the movie up. To him I say, you have no imagination nor understanding of asian culture.
I found this movie compelling, delightful, and a tear jerker. Very well done!
