A nice change
5 March 2021
I've read the book, seen the 1993 film and the 1974 series, loved them all. This didn't disappoint. Yes its different, but thats what makes it original. I didn't want to see a copycat of the last film. It did feel a bit like a one girl show at times and I would have preferred more dialog but Dixie Egerigx looked beautifully unique as Mary which is a change from most child actors who can be very annoying and fake-cute.

Martha's character was so dull but thankfully she didn't have many scenes. Colin was okay but his father lurking outside while he cried was extremely creepy. I think the crying at night should have been left out. It just doesn't fit in todays world, people crying hysterically at night can be mistaken for something alot worse than loneliness.

Mary grows as a person a but too quickly, I would have liked to see her have more challenges, but all in all, it is nice to watch. I think this version teaches children that whatever horrible situation you find yourself in, you can make it better, but only if you try. Life is what you make it.
