. . . there's nothing more that American businessmen desire than skilled strumpets--especially if the latter have spent a stretch in the state pen for women on hooking charges. Though Minnie settles for wedding the first traveling sales guy who happens her way, Laurie gets to play the option of being a rich dude's highly compensated mistress against her chance to become the spouse of a much younger, better-looking business owner. Since New Orleans sits in one of those Rebel states wherein most men are happy to wed their chunky first cousins, the more Progressive gents swarm the women's penitentiary on Parole Day eager to snap up any stray Jezebel who gives them a second glance. With their choice pretty much limited to harpies or harlots, most Southern "gentlemen" will select the Dirty Gertie every time as the best possible mother for their future tykes. As one "Colonel" puts it, "Who needs to learn about the Birds and the Bees at school, when my kids have a bordello graduate tucking them in every night?"
