Cheap but cheerful

Warning: Spoilers
I was seven years old when I saw this on Children's BBC back in the day and I absolutely loved it. Since then we're all older and wiser and we expect more from our films, and the Hollywood version generally surpasses this one in every way, but there's still something about this low budget six-parter from 1988 that hits the mark. The cast work hard - although Barbara Kellerman is a terrible ham - and the special effects are creative to say the least; this is still my favourite on-screen depiction of Aslan. The story is basic, yes, but there's quite a bit of atmosphere and even a bit of animation to step in where the budget runs out.
