I did not become interested in the NCIS franchise until 2021 and I was not able to watch episodes in chronological order. Even without the Ari mythology in this episode, too much was asked of us to believe Tony would return to work so soon when the virology doctor stated that the historical survival rate for this type of plague was 15% and a survivor would face a long recovery. I knew about Ziva before Ari because seasons 1-2 were not being aired until last month, after I had watched later seasons with Ziva's story, even the death of Ari, her brother. I do not think the Ari/Ziva storyline is a good one. The sister of the terrorist (also an FBI asset) who tormented NCIS and wanted Gibbs dead, starts working for Gibbs not too long after Ari kills one of the team members. I know very well that crime dramas involve conflict but too often it feels forced. Also, this episode has way too many hints at death. It is ridiculous. Two sailors are killed in their rental car (one disfigured too) and rigged with a bomb and yet only Gibbs takes it seriously? It screams set-up, conspiracy, and targeted attack but only Gibbs acts accordingly. I've never liked the DiNozzo character. Solid agent but in reality he would have been fired and possibly sued for sexual harassment. Why is he even working at a federal law enforcement agency, his ego? He has no known connection to the Navy or Marines. He did not learn to keep his mouth shut until he found out he had a daughter and quit, seriously? This is not a sit-com but I do not find anything funny about sexual harassment anyway.
