Fantastic show... until mid series

Warning: Spoilers
Out of all the shows I have watch and loved during my lifetime, Charmed must be the one I have loved the most and the longest. I fell absolutely in love with it as a kid, and now as an adult I love it even more because I understand so much more of it.

The overall premise, tone, cast, characters and writing is absolutely terrific. Not perfect, but there's just nothing like the original Charmed. It is just so magical, exciting, funny and full of heart.

But... sadly around mid series there is a huge shift in this. Between S4 and 5 there is a big and obvious tonal change. You could tell they wanted to make it lighter, more colorful, sillier and have more focus on romantic relationship. To a level where the characters started acting like their witch destinies was a pain in the ass and got on the way with that, AND to a point where they'd honestly avoid saving innocents to go on dates.

I blame producer Brad Kern and leads/producers Holly M. Combs and Alyssa Milano. It's obvious to me that they wanted to make this show into a sexy dramedy, and live vicariously through their characters. Especially Alyssa. She went season after season desperately seeking a man to make a family, when she was barely 30 years old... Charmed used to be about three sisters that happened to be witches, to three women that on paper were sisters, but acted more roommate/witches that happened to be sisters.

Somewhere in S6 it had just completely lost its direction and purpose, and all elements that once made the show great was gone. I loved all the seasons as a kid, but now I see that the true Charmed is the first four seasons. I can still enjoy many parts of the latter half of the series, but it doesn't come near to the greatness it once had, and still could have for its entire run if they didn't drove creator Constance M. Burge and Shannen Doherty off the show.
