Blood Quantum is a Canadian horror movie that premiered in 2019. The movie features a zombie apocalypse that takes place from the perspective of the First Nation reserve.

Blood Quantum is a competently enough constructed movie. This movie has good effects and some decent acting at times from the cast. However the movie still feels bland. There is an overall lack of direction across the movie that is reflected in the structuring of the movie. The movie takes place across different times that make it harder to follow the characters and why they choose to act the way they do. There are also some hard to believe moments in how the group has been able to survive for so long taking in new survivors.

One of the moments after the beginning is that the First Nation reserve takes in a new group of survivors. They have a simple questionnaire for the new survivors to answer. The questionnaire makes sense but it is expecting that the new survivors will honor the system. Despite one of the new survivors turning into a zombie, the First Nation reserve chooses not to have a thorough search of the new survivors. This plot detail makes no sense and makes the movie seem as if the group were only lucky to have survived this long.

The movie does feature some actors and actresses that are new faces for a North American audience. I enjoyed watching a brand new cast and the movie felt like it put most of its focus on this direction instead of the plot and structure of the movie. The characters in this movie are interesting and the audience is meant to care about the culture of the First Nation.

I would recommend "Blood Quantum".
