alex trains to hopefully qualify for the olympics
16 December 2021
New zealander alex archer trains for the upcoming 1960 olympics in roma, italy. Unlike most of her competitors, she already has an overloaded schedule, with several extra curricular activities. And she's a loner... not willing to kiss up to the more popular girls at school. And of course, there's a guy at school who likes her, but does she have time to even deall with that? She's already pretty maxed out. Family stuff. Dealing with tragedy. Lots of spacey music. I guess they are showing us the challenges she faces... as do all the olympic hopefuls. It moves pretty slowlym and mostly family friendly. Rated G in australia, according to imdb. Unrated here in US. Directed by megan huberman. She directed several things in the 1990s, but seems to have moved on from directing. Based on the book by tessa stavely duder, who was herself an accomplished swimmer, and was the new zealand swimmer of the year 1959. I wondered if this was autobiographical, but in wikipedia dot com, there's no mention of the olympics. And the novel did win awards for fiction in NZ.
