The film is based on the true story of Marie Dujardin (Nina Bergman). Branded as a traitor in 1944 as the lover of Von Bruckner (Daniel Bernhardt) she is spared her life by a small group of American soldiers who believe her story of buried Nazi gold in a cemetery. She leads them on a wild goose chase for much of the film.
