How do our hero detectives not get that the bad detectives (who they know are bad) will continue to do bad things?

How could super lawyer not have had an expert examine the footage of the innocent man, after making a big deal about the tampered footage from the guy they suspect? No one in their meetings said "Should we check our video too, so it's beyond reproach?"
