Cold Zone (2017)
5/10
Lukewarm disaster movie...
19 February 2022
Granted, I wasn't harboring any expectations to this 2017 disaster movie titled "Cold Zone" when I sat down to watch it in 2022. I stumbled upon the movie by sheer random chance, and of course opted to watch it on the account of it being a disaster movie that I hadn't already seen. And truth be told, I actually found the movie's cover to be interesting enough.

As it turned out then writers Hannah Davies and Ivan Hayden managed to put together an entertaining enough script and storyline for the movie. But don't go expecting a grand spectacular disaster movie, because that is not what "Cold Zone" is. It was a sort of cheesy and campy disaster movie, playing on every safe trope in the disaster movie genre. So at least you know what you are in for, in terms of predictability and entertainment.

Visually then "Cold Zone" was adequate. The special effects were luckily good enough. Sure, it wasn't special effects that bedazzled me or froze me solid in my seat, but they worked sufficiently enough to their purpose.

As for realism, forget about it. Lots of things made no logical sense in the movie, and also lots of geothermical and weather things made little sense or were just downright unrealistic. But hey, it is only a movie after all.

The acting in the movie was adequate. It was actually fair performances being put on here by the cast. And it was a cast ensemble of unfamiliar talents for me, which is actually something I enjoy in movies.

Entertaining enough for what it was, just don't expecting a spectacular disaster movie.

My rating of "Cold Zone" lands on a five out of ten stars.
