6/10
Not sure what kind of movie it wants to be

It's not dull and the action starts quickly. There's a really good movie trying to break out here.

But the soul of the movie is meant to be about the characters and what happens means to each of them. The way it's presented is as if that's an afterthought. At least as far as Pam, the lead character, is concerned, knowing why the rescue is so important to her would have added, not subtracted from the film.

And here lies another issue. It starts as her story, then it becomes John's, then hers, then his, then theirs, then his, etc, etc. You get the point. It's disorientating. I can understand why the director and editor chose to present the narrative in the way that they did, but I think it was the wrong choice.

Naomi Watts' performance is the thing that elevates this from a 5/10 for me. In the hands of another director, this could have been a must-watch not least because of the fact it's based on true events and a remarkable real-life story . As it is, I'd say it's ok [it's quite short] and not a waste of time but it is very much a badly missed opportunity..
