Bud Spencer and Terence Hill - those who grew up with them do not need me to introduce them - anyone else: I kind of doubt this is the first movie you'll come up when you look for them. That being said, the chemistry is there. The love/hate relationship that is. Bud always being annoyed by Terence - well their characters with each other that is. I don't think many will even know their character names - on the other hand, maybe I am not hardcore fan enough.
That all being said, certain aspects of the movies they did may not have aged as well for newer audiences. Do not go and cry woke and whatever else. I am not telling you what to feel or that this has to be cancelled (or any other movie for that matter). I am just saying that there may be more sensitive souls out there that need warning(s). Nothing wrong with that. One of the majoe concerns may be the depiction of natives on the island that is a major part of the movie.
Again, not saying this is bad or whatever. It was done under the guise of comedy. Some may feel that it does not suffice or warrant what is depicted here (cliche depictions - again for comedy value). Especially when they talk ... well funny (no pun intended).
That is one side. Another major part of the movie is a Japanese soldier, who never got the news that the war (second world war that is), has ended. Now I assume that the real life story was something this drew on. Because there actually is or rather was one soldier who thought that. I think there is a documentary about him? Not sure, but I read about him. So while this is fiction (like the treasure or the movie itself of course), it also is real ... like the treasure and the movie ... I'm kidding of course ... or am I? Well the movie will answer that.
There are scenes we come to expect from the duo ... fighting scenes that is. And the "appropriate" sound effects. You may wonder where all the guys who seem to be a glutton for punishment come from ... but why bother thinking too much? The movie is meant to entertain ... and entertain it does. Just suspend your disbelief and go with the flow ... and the boat ... pacing could have been a bit better, but maybe it is whatever you are used to too.
