I've been waiting for the release of this movie for quite some time. I assumed it would be another banal portrayal of Marilyn, but wow, was I wrong. I was pleasantly surprised with so many facets of this movie from the brilliant acting, the script, the camerawork, the cinematography and the pure rawness of the subject matter. The black and white film reel was so required.
I will be bold in saying I think the American public would simply not be ready for this type of movie. It's too real and raw. It does not follow the standard pattern of dull movies about Marilyn. It tore apart the top layer of skin and showed you directly inside her life.
I'd say this is the best real portrayal of Marilyn I've seen that delved into her childhood and upbringing, or lack thereof. It showed her father issues, how people used her, her self-esteem, drug usage and how she navigated through her life with her career, marriages, loss of children, etc.
I'm so so sad others did not feel this way.
