"The resemblance is quite uncanny"

Warning: Spoilers
A charming mix of thrills (not horror) and comedy purveyed skilfully by Roger Corman in his fruitful Edgar Allan Poe phase and acted out superbly by three masters of the screen; Boris Karloff, Peter Lorre and Vincent Price. They are a delight to behold and overshadow most of the rest of the cast, though the beauteous Hazel Court does make an impression as was her wont. There is not much of a story but that doesn't hinder the film from being jolly entertaining. The colourful widescreen cinematography is perfect and the sets are deliciously atmospheric, adding greatly to the ambience. The duel scene is justly celebrated but there are lots of great moments and the cast seem to be enjoying themselves.

When Dr Scarabus finds out that the Peter Lorre and Jack Nicolson's characters are father and son he says drily, "The resemblance is quite uncanny". I found that the most hilarious line in this fun film.
