If you're going to make a film about the horrors of the French educational system then make a FILM, for cryin out loud, and not this forty five minute surrealistic tone poem or whatever the hell it is! Just around the time you're starting to empathize with the kids and root for them to exterminate the pedagogical brutes who rule over them the movie's done, with a last shot of the students free at last on the rooftops under an open sky (one of the many indelible images provided by cinematographer Boris Kaufman and the sole reason this work gets a 6 instead of a 5 or worse). C plus.
